Who speaks Dutch?
Dutch, also known as Netherlandic or Flemish, is part of the Indo-European language family and belongs to the group of Germanic, Low Franconian languages. Approximately 27 million people speak Dutch.
Dutch can be freely used in the Netherlands and Belgium, where it has the status of an official language. It can also be used in Suriname, Aruba, and the Antilles, until 2010 known as the Dutch Antilles — five islands in the Caribbean Sea that were a Dutch autonomous territory.

History of the Dutch language
The Dutch language originates from the Low Franconian dialects of the Low German language. At the turn of the 7th and 8th centuries, a separate Dutch language emerged from these dialects. The first traces of Dutch writing date back to the 9th century. The first Dutch text was written in the early 12th century. In the Middle Ages, gradual standardization of the Dutch language began. By the 16th century, it increasingly relied on the Antwerp dialect. The translation of the Bible made in the 17th century also played a significant role in further unifying the pronunciation of the Dutch language. The first comprehensive Dutch dictionary was created at the end of the 20th century. In territories conquered by the Dutch, among other places, the Dutch language evolved into Afrikaans.
The question of where Dutch is spoken raises several issues. They concern not only the region where Dutch is spoken, but also its name itself.
Example
In English, it is referred to as Dutch, but sometimes also as Netherlandish. On the other hand, the standard language in Flanders, in the north of Belgium, is sometimes called Flemish, although it is the same standard language as in the Netherlands. Even within the Dutch language, several terms with the same meaning are used in parallel: Nederlands, Hollands, and Vlaams. Regardless of the division of the Netherlands into the Netherlands and Belgium, the Dutch language emerged, which is commonly referred to as Flemish (in non-Roman Belgium) and Dutch (in the Netherlands).
Dutch in business
Dutch language is beneficial for all companies planning to expand their business in the Benelux countries. Since outside this area its utility is limited to a few small territories, its use does not greatly impact business quality.
